After being raped by a neighbor, teenager Dolores Price consoles herself with copious amounts of junk food and television. Her traumatic experiences eventually land her in a mental institution, where things finally begin to improve. Author Wally Lamb approaches the novel’s heavy themes—which include suicide and forced abortion—with a striking gentleness. He also balances the novel’s darkness with vivid, often funny descriptions of everyday life in ’60s and ’70s New England. Beautiful story
The book was well written and addresses so many tough subjects such as rape, death, mental health struggles. At first I didn’t like the main character but grew to care about her. Just wish the ending was happier

What an amazing story about loss, love, and finding out who you truly are. This story makes you think about life and what it means to live.
She’s come undone
Good character study of Delores . She’s a bright and sassy child who ends up being influenced by the negative aspects of the adults around her. Her journey begins after her father abuses her mother then leaves them -her life spirals downhill. She looks for comfort in a man who rapes her. Her mother and grandmother try , but they are no match for the fear and loathing Delores has built up. Wally Lambs well-written fascinating story carries her to college and to an institution, to many influential relationships. She makes mistakes but eventually realizes she holds the key.
