Two nights when the deploy worked but login didn't. A weekend when every screen said "success" while the ebook came out blank. The moment a payment cleared but the user had nothing in hand. None of this shows up in tutorials. This is the record of those snags and the slow untangling.

It flows through six parts: from planning (what to build, and why) through design, build, and launch, and on into operating and reflecting once the ship is at sea. The appendices add comparison tables (AI tools, models, payments, hosting), design-doc templates, a glossary, command cards, and checklists.

If code still scares you but there's something you want to make, read it as a chart handed over by someone who set out from the same place. Information reflects the first half of 2026; fast-moving values are kept current on the companion site.
