Shirty
A Personal T-Shirt Collection
Publisher Description
This photograph essay of one man’s current T-shirt collection is a homage to the bands he loves, the places he has been, and the brands and causes he supports. Each T-shirt is catalogued, and many are accompanied by photographs illustrating the hinterland of the subject T-shirt.
“T-shirts are what I wear. None are plain. That'd be a missed opportunity to wear a bits of myself on my sleeve ... as it were.
Mostly they display association; identifying with that band or artist, place, event or cause.
This all seems rather empowering – or – is it just an easy way to avoid a dress-shirt? Both.
So why make a book?
Essentially T-shirts are ephemeral, and over the years I’ve sent many a great print to the rag-bag. So make a book. Ok.”
Subjects include: Flying Nun Records, Brooklyn Industries, Uni Qlo, Turk & Talyor, Taranaki Hardcore, Sniffin' Glue, Sex Pistols (Monarchy in the UK), Sea Shepherd, Savage, Reckless Records, Polyvinyl Records, Piccadilly Records, Paul Crowther Audio, Parquet Courts, Mission Cheese, Human Rights Campaign, Bedroom Suck Records and more.
