Real Life Romance
I loved the contrast between the hero and heroine in this story - the glamorous life of an up-and-coming Hollywood hunk/hot guy contrasts nicely with the decidedly unglamorous life of a graduate student. Sure, Zoe's attracted to Noah, and who wouldn't want to step out into the fantasy of La La Land once in a while to escape the drudgery of everyday life? But when the romance blossoms, Noah becomes a costly distraction. She's worked her tail off so she can be independent and stand on her own two feet - unlike most of the women in her family. She's in the home stretch for her degree and is torn between caring for Noah and fear of becoming derailed from her single-minded determination to complete her degree.
Noah's star is rising. He has the means to take care of Zoe, court her, and spend time wooing her, but she's so busy. He, on the other hand, has too much time on his hands between acting gigs, not to mention stress from the limelight and family issues of his own. Zoe's quest for her degree and her commitment to family push him to his emotional limits, however, since he fears he'll lose his heart to a woman who might be gone as soon as she's earned her diploma. If he can't be her lover, can he be her friend? And will he survive if she can't - or won't - come back to him in the end.
I LOVE the nuance of this story - the characters are believable and face real-life issues (career versus relationship, family baggage, the perils of hard-won success that could evaporate tomorrow) as they struggle to find a way to love and their HEA. The payoff is well worth the peril! Definitely recommend!
