In Grosse Pointe, a bastion of American privilege, it’s the summer before our rebellious 1960s and a pivotal moment for 19-year-old Val. Bright, lovely and annoyed with traditional gender roles, she’s estranged from her housebound mother, battling with her conventional sister, and deeply attached to her father, a prominent builder and the driving force behind a covert system that keeps the wrong ethnics out of their posh suburb.
