What if your final confession has already been written? All that's left is your signature.

Four years ago, Leah Ward lost her daughter after a brutal phone argument. She has spent every day since asking the same impossible question: Could she have stopped what happened?

A grief-support group is the first place where she doesn't have to explain that kind of guilt.

Then one of its members is found dead.
Police call it suicide. There is even a confession.
But Leah notices something no one else does.
In an earlier version, the woman wrote I couldn't.
In the final one, she wrote I knew.
A small change. A completely different kind of guilt.
Then another member dies.
Another message appears.

And Leah begins to see a pattern: someone has been collecting private confessions, stripping away doubt, changing might into knew, failed to into chose, mistakes into intent.

The trail reaches back years.
And the closer Leah gets to the person behind it, the more disturbing the truth becomes.
Because whoever has been rewriting the stories of the dead already knows Leah's story too.

Her daughter.
Their final call.
The words Leah still cannot remember clearly.

And somewhere, a final confession is already waiting.

This time, it has Leah's name on it.
