Publisher Description
Ryder Creed and his K9 search-and-rescue dogs return in the second installment of this exciting series, teaming up once more with FBI profiler Maggie O’Dell in their riskiest case yet.
When Ryder Creed responds to a devastating mudslide in North Carolina, he knows that the difference between finding survivors and the dead is time. He and his sturdiest search-and-rescue dog, Bolo, get to work immediately, but the scene is rife with danger: continued rainfall prevents the rescue teams from stabilizing the land; toxic household substances spread by the crushing slide fill the area with hazardous waste; and the detritus and debris are treacherous for both man and dog to navigate. But most perilous are the secrets hidden under the mud and sludge—secrets someone would kill to protect. For this is no ordinary rescue mission. Among the buildings consumed by the landslide was a top-secret government research facility, and Creed has been hired to find what’s left of it.
Then rescuers recover the body of a scientist from the facility who was obviously dead before the landslide—killed by a gunshot to the head. The FBI sends Agent Maggie O’Dell to investigate, and she and Creed are soon caught in a web of lies, secrets, and murder that may involve not only the government facility, but decades-old medical experiments that are the subject of current congressional hearings. As more bodies are found under even more unusual circumstances, they come ever closer to exposing the truth—but with unknown forces working against them, Maggie, Creed, and the dogs are running out of time.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Bestseller Kava's exciting sequel to Breaking Creed takes K-9 rescue dog trainer Ryder Creed and his dog, Bolo, to North Carolina's Haywood County, where there has been a major landslide. At the disaster site, the continual downpour makes the search for survivors dangerous. Among the missing are scientists working on a classified project at the local branch of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. After one of the bodies recovered by Creed's team turns out to be a murder victim, FBI agent Maggie O'Dell, the lead of Kava's other series (Stranded, etc.), joins in the homicide investigation. The suspense rises when Creed gets trapped in a mudslide, though he has reason to hope Bolo has escaped to bring help. The undercurrent of a potential romance between O'Dell and Creed adds heat. Creed is a multifaceted character whose hidden depths are only barely revealed in this intense thriller, which builds to an explosive conclusion.

GREAT read and Ryder's back!!!!
Ryder Creed and Maggie O'Dell are back!!! I just love these guys as a couple. This was their third case together as he was introduced in a Maggie O'Dell novel prior to starting the series.
The action and everything your expecting continues on in this book just like her others. This time though, she's unknowingly sent in for a government coverup case that turns out to be quite dangerous. Men with power will do anything to coverup their mistakes and I mean, anything!!
The ending kind of just dropped off at the end, so I'm sure there will be a continuing story as to how this plot finally unfolds.
I definitely recommend this or any of the Ryder Creed books. He's my favorite love interest of any of the female heroines out there. He's just compassionate and sensitive with those dogs. Maggie needs to forget Ben and move on!!!!
I want to thank Penguin Group Putnam and Net Galley for the free e-galley in exchange for an honest review. It was definitely entertaining and enjoyable. It made for very nice reading on a rainy day.
No ending
I have NEVER read a book that left absolutely everything unexplained. Nothing is finished and everything is left hanging. No ending at all.
3stars
I read the first book in the series and now this one. Although I truly liked the story, I couldn’t get used to the author explaining something after the fact.......a character would provide an answer and you’re wondering what you missed. I’d do a complete word search to see the explanation would come through later. I know this is a series but too many of the connected story lines are left hanging so you have to assume how it all ends since not everything is answered clearly in the next book.
