Publisher Description
In the first book of a sizzling dystopian romance series, psychic gifts are a death sentence and there are rules to survival: Trust no one. Lie to everyone. And whatever you do, don’t fall for your greatest enemy.
TRUST NO ONE.
Wren Darlington has spent her whole life in hiding, honing her psychic abilities and aiding the rebel Uprising in small ways. On the Continent, being Modified means certain death—and Wren is one of the most powerful Mods in existence. When one careless mistake places her in the hands of the enemy and she’s forced to join their most elite training program, she’s finally handed the perfect opportunity to strike a devastating blow from inside their ranks.
LIE TO EVERYONE.
But training for Silver Block can be deadly, especially when you’re harboring dangerous secrets and living in close quarters with everyone who wants you dead.
AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T FALL FOR YOUR GREATEST ENEMY.
As the stakes grow ever higher, Wren must prove herself to Silver Block. But that’s easier said than done when your commanding officer is the ruthless and infuriatingly irresistible Cross Redden, who doesn’t miss anything when it comes to her. And as war rages between Mods like her and those who aim to destroy them, Wren must decide just how far she’s willing to go to protect herself . . . and how much of the Continent is worth saving.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Love takes root amid a world at war in this enrapturing science fiction romance. In Dani Francis’ dark vision, modified humans with psychic powers known as Mods rebel against unaltered humans known as Primes who’ve taken control of the continent. Wren Darlington is a young Mod and as good with a gun as she is with her telepathic gifts. Behind enemy lines, she hides her powers, working as a double agent in the high-powered Silver Block. But her boss, Cross Redden, turns out to be not only as tough as Wren but incredibly hot. The more Francis amps up the danger, the more she heightens the sexual tension between Wren and Cross, leaving us desperate to see what would pop off first. And just when you think you know where things are headed, Francis pulls the rug out from under you. If you love romantasy, see what’s up in the world of sci-fi and romance with Silver Elite.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Francis's debut launches a romantasy trilogy with this tense and steamy foray into a dystopian future. More than a century after a devastating war, the remnants of the U.S. are lorded over by General Redden, whose government persecutes Modified humans, people whose psychic abilities are the lingering result of a bioweapon. Among them is headstrong 20-year-old Wren Darlington, but she's unique in that her powers do not cause her veins to glow, allowing her to easily hide her abilities. After her adoptive father is captured and executed, Wren, who is known to be a sharp shooter, is conscripted into the program that trains the elite Silver Block soldiers, led by General Redden's son Cross, whom Wren both despises and is drawn to. When members of the Modified rebel Uprising reach out telepathically to Wren and insist she make it into the top tier special force as an operative for them, Wren is caught between her terror at being found out and her conviction that she's the best, all while unsuccessfully trying to stamp out her attraction to Cross. Francis expertly builds this high-stakes surveillance state and crafts beautifully flawed, emotionally complex characters. Readers will eagerly await the next installment.
