Better than book 1
I was provided a copy of Sinner’s Revenge via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a continuation of the story started in book one of the series, Sinner’s Creed. I will admit, I didn’t like book one and rated it accordingly. I was pleasantly surprised with book 2, I was able to get into the story and the characters.
We meet Shady in book one, we really didn’t learn much about him. Only than he was uber loyal and smart. Well, this book is all about him. Unlike book one leading man, I actually liked Shady AKA Zeke, homicidal tendencies and all. He is one of those ULTIMATE bad boys, he does bad but for all the right reasons. Diem was perfect for him. She is brash, hostile and doesn’t take crap from anyone.
Their relationship is a strange one. It starts out based on lust, hate, annoyance, attraction and sarcasm. Their banter had me smiling to myself. Especially, their need to commit some type of feigned violence on each other. I don’t know anyone who hasn't been in a relationship and has thought to themselves “I could just choke the life out of them right now!” This is the first book that I’ve read where the characters had those thoughts and even spoke them out loud. It was refreshing to not have the lead characters in a constant state of mind numbing bliss. It was also extremely amusing!
The story takes and interesting twist that leads back to book one, so it is helpful if you have read it. You could get by without but you wouldn’t have a 100% grasp on what was going on. The twist was something that shocked me and I really didn’t see coming, so that was awesome. Did I particularly like the twist? not really, but it just added another layer to the story and to Diem’s character.
Unlike book one we do get a “traditional” HEA. However, it was ruined in my opinion by bringing back remnants of the ending from book 1. Even with that I liked the story. I like Diem and Shady, they were an unconventional couple. They were fun to read about and watch their relationship grow and change....Sara
