Publisher Description

It is a compilation of over 2,300 accounts of slavery and 500 black-and-white photographs of former slaves. These works were researched in the 1930s as part of the Federal Writers' Project of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and assembled and microfilmed in 1941 as the seventeen-volume Slave Narratives: A Folk History of Slavery in the United States from Interviews with Former Slaves. This is a true oral and visual documentation and contains no fiction. It offers deep insight into the relationships, hardships and bravery of slaves. This is a true documentary and has been certified.

The collection is an effort to document the experience of slaves through the eyes of African-Americans rather than the usual white man’s view. It is a historical and true account and the works were collected from living slaves across America. It also contains pictures which were rare and offer a visual documentation of the life of a slave. Nothing in this book is assumed or fictional. It is all true and documented and is a real trek through an emotional time for the country. It does not have one author. Thee authors are made up of living slaves and all accounts were recorded by the foundation and documented into the book.
