A lie
All of the stories account for the slavery experience to have been fun and rewarding for the former slaves. Most definitely there were some people who enjoyed it but I find it hard to believe that so many did considering the rather malicious morals normalized in society during this time period regarding the treatment of black people. Also the anecdotes appear to be written by the same person/same few people. If you do decide to read this book, I suggest that you keep in mind that this book is not a good illustrative example of the slavery experience. Since this book was commissioned to be published by us government officials, most likely one of their main goals was to deliberately sugarcoat the horrors of reality for so many people at this time so as to not appear guilty to the public.
