Excellent reading and very in-depth history
The author has a very clear understanding of both subjects, slavery and the Civil War. The information is factual and well cited throughout the book for those studying American history. I personally had. A hard time putting it down.

I found this book most excellent. It compares quite favorably to Shelby Footes masterpiece although not as lengthy.
