What happens when you take five teenagers, a famous depression-busting author, a television talent show and a coffee shop?

Smile. That's what happens.

Joel Wright is a teenager attending his local college. His parents run their own coffee shop. Joel's friends Alan, Amie and Hannah regularly hang out there but the other member of their group, Tim, is currently progressing through a television talent show playing the saxophone. The talent show changes Tim's life forever, resulting in a famous self-help author wanting him to provide support for an upcoming tour.

In this story of amazing personal highs and gut-wrenching lows, life appears to have plenty in store for the teenagers. How do they get through it all? With a smile.
