So Big Is excellent

Just finished this. I paid 99 cents for what turned out to be a delightful book with a main character to admire and love. I’d heard of Edna Ferber and now
know why this book won a Pulitzer Prize in 1924. If you loved A Gentleman From Moscow, you’ll have the same feeling about the main character when reading this. Ferber’s writing is vivid and crisp. Her understanding and description of human nature, the value of hard work, Chicago history, farming, clothing, art, and beauty -even cabbage! - is stunning. It ranks in detail about the early 20th century in America with Hilary Mantel and the 1500’s in England. I’ll start tracking down Ferber’s other books. Wow.
