Publisher Description
So... Eighth Grade Happened is a thoughtful and relatable middle-grade story about the friendships, struggles, and quiet lessons that shape us during one unforgettable school year.
Told through Cole's honest and reflective voice, the book captures the everyday moments of middle school life-laughing with friends at lunch, surprising yourself in class, facing setbacks, and learning that growing up doesn't always happen the way you expect. When grades slip, doubts creep in, and the pressure to figure things out feels overwhelming, Cole begins to realize that the hardest lessons often become the most important ones.
Along the way, he discovers that growth doesn't come from being perfect. It comes from effort, encouragement, and the willingness to try again-even when things feel uncertain.
Filled with humor, heart, and real-life reflections about friendship, responsibility, and becoming the person you want to be, So... Eighth Grade Happened invites readers to look back on their own experiences and think about the choices shaping their future.
Because sometimes one school year can change everything.
And sometimes the best advice is simple:
Lock In.

A Story My Son Couldn’t Put Down
I bought this book as a gift for my middle-school son, who enjoys reading over summer break. He couldn’t put it down.
He said the humor and references kept him engaged, but what stood out most was how the story captured thoughts and feelings he has felt at times but didn’t always say out loud. At different moments, he saw parts of himself in Cole’s challenges.
I read it too, and I was impressed by the maturity, honesty, and authenticity of the writing. It offers a thoughtful look at the real struggles, friendships, school pressure, identity, and growth that come with middle school.
A very nice, eye-opening read for students, parents, educators, and families.
