Publisher Description
The Glass Castle meets A League of Their Own in Solo, a candid and moving memoir about family, loss, and reconciliation from Hope Solo, the supremely talented, headline-making goalkeeper for the U.S. women’s national soccer team.
During the 2011 Women’s World Cup, Solo became an idol, role model, and sex symbol to a new generation of young American sports enthusiasts, inspiring the kind of intense devotion not seen since the days of Mia Hamm.
An Olympic gold medalist and arguably America’s sexiest athlete, Hope has been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated (twice), in ESPN: The Magazine, and as a contestant on the hit ABC television show Dancing with the Stars, and her poignant, compelling, and profoundly inspiring personal history will score big with her legion of fans.

Solo, a Memoir of Hope
I enjoyed this autobiography tremendously and along the way gained a lot of respect for an athlete who has never learned to keep her mouth shut nor toe the party line! Hope Solo is not just a great athlete, and the best female goalkeeper in the game of soccer, she is a woman of courage and conviction.
Never politically correct, frequently controversial, she tells her story with rough honesty, and that takes a lot of guts. She makes no apologies for who she is, and I believe that she is great for women's soccer. She is strong, outspoken, blunt and honest, and all of those qualities are needed as women's sports break through the barriers of accepted female behavior into the era of female professional sports.
As she continues to make headlines and controversial comments, the book sheds light on her personality and challenges the reader to accept her as a multi-faceted person, a daughter, a sister, a friend, with strengths and weaknesses. Through her story emerges a fully rounded portrait of a strong female athlete at the top of her sport, who deserves both admiration for her accomplishments and compassion for her struggles.
Before I read her book, I had a hard time liking her, and actually debated buying the book, not sure if I wanted to give her my financial support. But I wanted to try to understand the woman behind the headlines, and the person I found is immensely likable, loyal, stubborn and a lot of fun!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes sports, and to all women, as well as to parents of female athletes. Great job, Hope Solo, you won me over, and I am a die-hard Brianna Scurry supporter. Hope Solo's success takes nothing away from Brianna, who saved the game and did not get enough credit for the 1999 Women's World Cup victory. But then goalkeepers rarely get the glory, I know this firsthand as the mother of a goalkeeper.
I hope this book helps to correct that for all goalkeepers. As she proved again during the 2012 London Olympics, Hope Solo is a great goalkeeper, a great athlete, and as I discovered after reading her book, a great character! Read this book, you'll enjoy her story!
Great Story
I was just a Hope Solo fan but after reading this GREAT book I'm now her #1 Fan
Simply amazing
Not only does this book tell an immense story of a constant struggle to stay true to oneself, Hope Solo does an incredible job in the portrayal of it. The writing is beautiful and articulately crafted. I enjoyed reading this and had trouble putting it down. Being a life long women's soccer enthusiast, it was certainly eye opening to read about players I have idolized my entire life. I suggest this book to anyone and everyone!! Good job Hope!!!! Much love, Emily <3
