"A dark and riveting page-turner with an intelligent twist." —Nadine Matheson, author of The Jigsaw Man
SOMEONE HAD TO MAKE HIM PAY. SOMEONE HAD TO TAKE HER DOWN.
Brandi Maxwell is living the dream as an intern at prestigious New York fashion house Simon Van Doren. Except “living the dream” looks more like scrubbing puke from couture dresses worn by hard-partying models and putting up with microaggressions from her white colleagues. Still, she can’t help but fangirl over Simon’s it-girl daughter, Taylor. Until one night, at a glamorous Van Doren party, when Brandi overhears something she shouldn’t have, and her fate becomes dangerously intertwined with Taylor’s.
Model and influencer Taylor Van Doren has everything…and is this close to losing it all. Her fashion mogul father will donate her inheritance to charity if she fails her next drug test, and he’s about to marry someone nearly as young as Taylor, further threatening her stake in the family fortune. But Taylor deserves the money that’s rightfully hers. And she’ll go to any lengths to get it, even if that means sacrificing her famous father in the process.
All she needs is the perfect person to take the fall…
Don't miss Amber & Danielle Brown's next riveting thriller, ZETAS TILL WE DIE, where during their ten-year reunion Priscilla and her sorority sisters are forced to confront the secrets of their past when one of their sisters didn't survive the night...

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Brandi Maxwell, the protagonist of Brown and Brown's suspenseful debut, grew up on the mean streets of Newark, N.J., but has finally achieved the life she believes she deserves. She's juggling studying at FIT in New York City with her dream internship at a high-end fashion house—an unpaid internship she could never afford if her boyfriend, Nate Robinson, the privileged son of a football star and himself a star college football player, didn't support her financially as well as emotionally. But Brandi is still subjected to the microaggressions and outright discrimination facing a Black woman in fashion's world of trust fund babies. After she overhears the owner's daughter, Taylor Van Doren, plotting to kill her father, Simon, because he has threatened to disinherit her over her drug use, Brandi winds up framed for Simon's murder and must fight to clear her name. Readers should be prepared for some over-the-top characterizations and unlikely plot twists, such as a villain who is too inept to fake a simple urine test being able to plot and pull off a near-perfect murder. Fans of Gossip Girl will have fun.

Great read
I loved everything about this book. I found myself literally yelling at Brandi at one point the way you yell at actors watching a move. The fact that it comes with a playlist at the end wS an unexpected lovely surprise
Always Get a Lawyer
If you enjoy reading about naive idiots who should know better, but trust the wrong people and speak to cops without a lawyer because “they did nothing wrong”…this book is for you.
