Publisher Description
Sophie Corby thought every man was like her father and brothers--crazy for fox-hunting. Brought to London for a season, she was astonished to meet Sir Tony Farnham, who loved town, was indifferent to fox-hunting, and was possessed of polish and grace. Unfortunately, Sophie's father had found a more acceptable (to him) candidate for her hand... Regency Romance by Patricia Wynn; originally published by Harlequin Regency Romance

Delightful, funny story
This book is delightful. It reads like a classic English farce, complete with quirky characters. I love Sir Tony! He is witty, but never at others expense. He sees a glimpse of the real person behind Sophie’s distracted countenance at the beginning, and then helps her to express herself more. He appreciates her for who she is, with her own talents and interests. Two of the quirky, characters are Sophie’s Aunt Sadie and Sir Tony’s mother, both of whom are also endearing. The other is Sophie’s father, who is not so much. He is portrayed as a caricature of the blustery English country gentleman who lives for The Hunt. He is rather selfish and single-minded. If he has to leave the country for The Season in London for his daughter to meet a husband, then he wants her married quickly so he can return home. And, he wants a son-in-law whose heart is true, though to the pursuit of fox hunting, rather than to his daughter. My only complaint is that the book ends too soon! I wanted to go on reading about these characters. However, the ending is very clever and ties together the book well.
I definitely can picture this as a stage play, with actors from other British period dramas. (For example, JJ Field from Northanger Abbey as Sir Tony and Daniela Denny-Ashe from North and South as Sophie.). I’d like at least to hear it as an Audiobook - narrated by someone who can truly do a variety of voices, such as Joel Froomkin, who has narrated several books by Sheri Cobb South. I hope you enjoy this clever story as much as I did. It is a quick read, but it will bring a smile to your face.
P.S., I highly recommend other books by this author, especially the Blue Satan series, which combines swashbuckling-type action with witty dialog and extensive historical research. Ms. Wynn has finished 7 out of the 8- book series. The final book should be finished in a couple of years, based on her website statement. Unfortunately, books 6 and 7 are not yet available as e-books.
