Publisher Description
A sound design recipe book on creating sounds in Ableton Live’s Analog synthesizer. Foreword by Dennis DeSantis (Author of Making Music: 74 creative strategies for electronic music producers). Each of the nine chapters in this book will show you how to create contemporary sounds for the modern electronic music producer. Using screenshots from Analog and audio examples, you will learn step by step how to create nine sounds from scratch. If you are new to Analog, an introductory video will demonstrate how to navigate and work the software synthesizer. No prior experience in synthesis or sound design is required but a basic understanding of Ableton Live will help.
The following are the topics for each chapter.
01 Smooth Square Bass
02 Arpeggiated Saw Bass
03 Future Bass Brass
04 Accordion
05 Hard Sync Lead
06 Organ
07 Clavichord
08 Rhythmic Formant
09 Flute Pad
Analog is included in the Ableton Live Suite bundle or can be purchased separately from www.ableton.com
Customer Reviews
Wasn't expecting all the great video clips in every chapter!
This is a fantastic resource. Skim or dive in and read every detail. Whatever you have time for you are sure to learn something - or many things.
Hope there will be more editions to follow for other Live engines and elements.
Modern and Useful Patches, but with Lots of Errata
The patches are neat, and modern, something you will find useful in real work. Unfortunately, there are lots of errors and inconsistencies between the printed text and the screenshots taken and also with the audio samples. For example, in Chapter 3, the first page of instructions notes raising Osc 2 by 7 semitones, but none of the screenshots show this change. It is also common to find audio samples that have modulations present later in the chapter.
In short, good patches, very sloppy editing.
