When Rebecca's survivalist parents die in a fiery crash in the desert, she is rescued, healed, and adopted by Linsss, a creature from another planet. As she adapts to life with her alien foster parent, Rebecca tries to learn why Linsss has arrived on Earth. When it looks like she might finally get some answers, an innocent action leads to a deadly accident.

Cast out by Linsss, the grief-stricken teenager finds a new home with the only other person living nearby, reclusive meteorite hunter Theodora "Teddy" McNaughton.

The unexpected arrival of Teddy's 17-year-old delinquent nephew, Jake, is the last thing a shy, burn-scarred Rebecca needs. When Jake uncovers the existence of Linsss, he makes a decision that puts all of them at risk.

Rebecca must now find a way to keep her alien foster mother from being hunted, caught, and sold to the highest bidder.
