Sometimes you fall for Mr. Right. And sometimes for Mr. Right Now…
May
Did you hear the one about the girl who walks into a bar and catches her live-in lover kissing someone else? No? You’re the only one in town who missed it.
Luckily Alec is there to wrap me up in strong arms and carry me out the door before things get too ugly. And that’s not all Alec is good at. Our unexpected chemistry makes him the perfect rebound guy.
Alec
I should know better than to hook up with my rival’s little sister, but the fiery look in May’s eyes really turns my crank. She needs cheering up, and I’m just the guy for the job.
It’s not like I’ll fall in love. Not even after a string of scorching hot trysts, and the realization that we’re good at the same things: wild nights and familial disappointment. I don’t do love, never have, never will. So this is the perfect arrangement, for both of us.
Nobody would approve, but nobody has to know…

Speakeasy
This story is full of truths and emotions. May has faced her demons because of the love of Alec. I hated to see this story end!
Awesome book
Love all the characters in this series but Alec is by far my favorite. A great read!
Absolutely love this Series
Speakeasy is the 6th book in Sarina Bowen's True North series. And while I still believe that the first two books in the series are the best, this series is one that I will drop everything that I'm currently doing or reading to be able to pick up the latest to read.
Readers of the series will remember May Shipley as the sister of Griff Shipley - apple farmer and cider maker. May is an interesting character. Spoiler...in previous books in the series, readers have learned a few things about May. 1. She is a recovering alcoholic - which is interesting since a majority of the family business deals with the making of hard apple cider. 2. May is a lesbian...or at least she is bi-sexual and has had a long time crush on her friend Lark.
In these latest installment of the series, we learn a lot more about May. And this time we also get to know in depth Alec Rossi - overly protective brother to Zara and bar owner. These two make quite the unlikely pair - you wouldn't necessarily think that they click.
I really enjoyed the dynamic between these two characters. I also really liked Alec. He was quick to accept his increased feelings towards May. I feel that often times male characters are portrayed as being resistance to accepting that they have fallen for a woman. They chalk up their feelings to nothing more than friendship. Say things like "it's too early" to be more than anything. Alec was quick to determine that he really liked May. As well as quick to decide he loved her. It way May who was the reluctant of the two this time around.
One more perk to this story - we get to catch up with the Shipley clan. I fell in love with the family in book one of the series. It's so much fun to reconnect with characters that you've had a vested interest in.
