Publisher Description

Part romance, part detective story, Sputnik Sweetheart tells the story of a tangled triangle of uniquely unrequited love.

Now with a new introduction from the author.

K is madly in love with his best friend, Sumire, but her devotion to a writerly life precludes her from any personal commitments. At least, that is, until she meets an older woman to whom she finds herself irresistibly drawn. When Sumire disappears from an island off the coast of Greece, K is solicited to join the search party—and finds himself drawn back into her world and beset by ominous visions. Subtle and haunting, Sputnik Sweetheart is a profound meditation on human longing.

Absolutely hopelessly in love

I’ve always admired Murakamis style of writing; the mystery, the magic, the surrealism and the word play — is out of this world.

Having said that, this book was exceptional, I love the ending which left a million interpretations for the readers, I love the characters.

Great book

Such an amazing book. Very vividly opens the imagination and guides the reader to destinations like no other. Absolutely recommend.

Haunting and Unforgettable

I read this book years ago, on a whirlwind romance with Murakami's books in which I read everything he had written up until that point within a few months. Since I read 8 of his novels and the short story collections all back to back there is a lot of mashing and blending together of all of his stories in my memory ... But for some reason, some of the stories stick out more than others and this one especially. I recall the feelings that I felt for and about Sumire and K almost as intimately as I recall my own experiences. A great entry into Murakami since it's not as Big (literally and figuratively) as his more famous novels; and a must-read for any Murakami fans. The expression of emotion in this book is just exquisite - you will feel what the characters feel.
