His Choice. Her Ruin.

My father is one of the rulers of the Family; a community cut off from society.

The people think we are perfect.

But no one knows what goes on behind closed doors.

They won’t understand the choice I have to make.

And neither will she.

The Family doesn’t treat girls nicely.

For her, there are rules that have to be obeyed.

Even if they end in pain, hardship… and ruin.

But I will save her.

Even if she’ll hate me for it.

Noah and “Her” Beginning

Before His Choice by Clarissa Wild is the prequel to her first book in the dark romantic duet entitled Under His Rule. This short read provides background information about Noah (the son and heir of the patriarch of The Family, his parents and their relationship, and the community he resides within known as The Family. The community is a male dominated society where women are expected to be subservient and live by the rules of The Family or face severe consequences. At the conclusion of this book, Noah assists a young girl known as “Her” to temporarily escape The Family for her own protection and safety. The next book in this series, UnderHis Rule, involves these characters and this situation.

An honest review that will make make some people unhappy.

The story is told in both POV's and switches from past to present on both main characters.
The story begins with Phoenix in prison and him wanting to seek revenge against Vanessa.
No prison can keep me from seeking revenge. Especially when it comes to her.
She, the woman who put me in jail.
While Phoenix is in prison he is plotting his revenge against Vanessa. Prison can't keep him away from Vanessa because he plans to escape.
I swore that I’d come for her, to claim what belongs to me: Her life.
He comes for, he claims her, and he decides if she gets to live.

I’m not a good man. On the contrary, I love to be bad. It’s in my veins. Just like it’s in my veins to ruin her.
From a young age Phoenix enjoyed making people and animals suffer. The entire premise of the story is Phoenix tormenting Vanessa while she remains locked in a cage. Instead he ends up torturing himself.
She’s an actress, pretending to be a saint, but we both know that isn’t true. One way or another, she’ll pay for what she did.
Phoenix is on a mission to reveal all Vanessa's secrets to ruin her.
I will hunt for her. Make her fear me. Make her body mine.
Phoenix hunts her for only one day. She was easy to find. It's true she does fear him not because he wants to kill her but because he wants to punish and torture her. He enjoys torturing her. Phoenix wants to own her body.
Bad deeds never go unpunished … And I always go out with a bang.
When other guys try to touch Vanessa, Phoenix snaps. He is a killer.

So the story is titled Stalker and when Miles was 10 he followed Vanessa home from school one day. This earned him this title. The story alludes to the feeling of being watched. Vanessa states she would understand if someone was watching her and says, "I wait for him to come for my head". That concludes the Stalker portion of the story. The rest of the story is tied up with righting a wrong.
Vanessa became friends with Miles when they were 10 years old. Vanessa is from a wealthy family and has certain expectations. She must maintain appearances and be careful who she hangs out with. Her friendship with Miles is not one that her parents approve of. Vanessa is fearful of her mother and distances herself from Miles.
Phoenix has conflicting thoughts. He wants to kill her, but not while she is asking to be killed. He wants to punish her, but he also wants to kiss her. Phoenix does not understand the pressures of Vanessa's lifestyle. He thinks she is rejecting him when she is actually protecting him.
The story governs around stereotypes about Miles and Vanessa's upbringing.
How many times is Vanessa going to state the obvious? Are you going to kill me Phoenix? Yes. Are you here to torture me? Yes.
With a title like Stalker I thought Phoenix was going to be a killer not some troubled kid who was wrongfully rejected by society. Nor did I expect Vanessa to have a predetermined future with the high society socialites to please her parents. Basically Vanessa's future was arranged by her mother. I did not realize this was going to be a story about a guy who thinks he is not worthy of the girl he loves. I also did not realize it was going to include raunchy sexcapades.
