Publisher Description
Standup Guys is a comic's story about a unique group of comedians that includes: Larry David, Richard Lewis, Richard Belzer, Bill Maher, Gilbert Gottfried, Rita Rudner, Joe Piscopo, Paul Reiser, Jerry Seinfeld, and the most lovable neurotic characters who thrived due to talent, passion, and most importantly‚ camaraderie.
"I really liked it. The writing was sharp, which leads me to believe you had outside help. Please pass on my congratulations to the author and tell him, her or perhaps your Dad before he passed. It's a wonderful book." - Larry David
"This amazing read reminds me of how it might have been for artists hanging out in the early 20th Century. DeBellis reveals dead-on, an existence where getting laughs practically, if not completely validated our reason to exist." - Richard Lewis
"I don't think any of us would have become the comedians that we became without passing through that crucible. I wouldn't trade anything for the fun we had. God we had fun. I miss seeing everybody. Standup Guys authentically mirrors that era." - Bill Maher
"The 70s and 80s arguably produced the funniest generation of comics. I was transported back to the bar at Catch A Rising Star, sitting on a stool with my notebooks and playing 'Is this funny?'" - Rita Rudner
"Standup Guys was so real that I expected to get heckled by the book. The book is witty, smart and captures what it was like during that magical time." - Richard Belzer
"I can honestly say the paper this book is printed on is of pretty high quality and the cover is relatively durable." - Gilbert Gottfried
"I was able to identify with John's vivid description of the comedy world in the 70's and
80's. I'm proud to be part of this club of comics and grateful that I'm not as neurotic and dysfunctional as some of them in this book." - Kevin Nealon
"John's book relives all those great, early, explosive years of New York comedy: the brotherhood, the backstage fun, the beer, and even the broken bones. It was a blast." - Joe Piscopo.

Standout Book!
Great book! It gives a birds eye view into part of the evolution of standup comedy in New York filled with many of the players who have helped shape American television and pop culture. As a comic, I believe there is a similar story in each of the major cities which have become hotbeds in the development of standup comedy from the 50's and 60's to today, e.g., San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, Denver, Tampa/St. Pete, etc. Pick up a copy of this book today, but be careful, once you start reading you'll not want to put it down! -Nick Cokas
