A great companion to The Rising Storm
This book is wonderful—if you've been following the High Republic novels and comics up to this point. I suppose it can stand alone, but the reader loses a lot. I've read all the novels, but have only been read one issue of the High Republic Adventures comic series. While it's great to experience familiar characters from another author's perspective, I found some frustration to be had as well. For instance, in this book, Tye Yorrik is described as having a raspy voice. I can't recall any mention of that in The Rising Storm, and so, my skull-cinema had a very different voice in mind for her. Little details like that can be somewhat jarring, but they don't take too much away from the reading experience.
After all is said and done, I'd love to go back and read this book again, alongside The Rising Storm, to see how well they fit together. This story is essentially that story, told from a different point of view—or rather, a couple different points of view. Reading the two simultaneously should be quite an interesting experience. I do hope we get to experience these characters again, preferrably in prose form. We've but scratched the surface of what they could have to offer the Star Wars universe!
