Publisher Description
Someone wants Georgie Brennan dead. And the more she digs for the truth, the fewer people she can trust.
Months after her husband, Sean, is killed by a hit-and-run driver, physicist Georgie Brennan discovers he lied to her about where he had been going that day. A cryptic notebook, a missing computer, and strange noises under her house soon have her questioning everything she thought she knew.
With her job hanging by a thread, her son struggling to cope with his father’s death, and her four-star general father up for confirmation as the next secretary of defense, Georgie quickly finds herself tangled in a web of political intrigue that has no clear agenda and dozens of likely villains.
Only one thing is clear: someone wants her dead too. And the people closest to her might be the most dangerous of all.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In the pleasant first suspense inspirational from Mitchell (Like a Flower in Bloom), a woman investigating the mysterious death of her husband uncovers a deep well of political intrigue. Sean and Georgie Brennan's great marriage ends abruptly when Sean is killed in a hit-and-run accident. As physicist Georgie reels from the tragedy and starts the slow process of recovery, she discovers things that don't make sense. Why did Sean lie about where he was going on the day he died? Why did he plant flowers in the front yard that he knew she hated? Seemingly small details begin to point to a cover-up related to Sean's research. Georgie follows the trail left by Sean, which appears to lead to the very government office where her father, a war hero about to be sworn in as Secretary of Defense, is about to begin work. After discovering a cryptic journal, Georgie digs deeper into the last projects military historian Sean was researching. Mitchell seamlessly integrates faith elements, as Georgie relies on her faith throughout. Fans of Terri Blackstock will love this fast-paced tale with a surprising, disconcerting finale.

I really enjoyed this- it really picked up speed and kept going. It ended too quickly but all the lose ends were tied up - I wanted a little more explanation at the end but I got the point. Stayed up all night to read.
A masterfully written domestic suspense novel!
I love the main character! Georgia Brennan is totally bombarded with heart stopping, terrifying information. I don’t know how she managed to hold it all together. As the story progresses and each tidbit is revealed it only brings up more questions about what is true, and who can be trusted.
I was completely sucked in and stayed up way later than I should have for two nights in a row. I don’t know how much of this book should be considered suspense and how much is psychological thriller. It is completely filled with incredibly well crafted twists and turns.

State of Lies
WOW‼️‼️‼️I literally could not put this down once started. Forget supper, forget everything. I have always loved political conspiracies and RUSSIA involvement and spies and truth and the right side of History and interchangeable with love and family. This story really had it all. A very smart read. I had no idea where this was going which to me is the best kind of book. Loved the background of the Gulf War. Grew up watching War Movies. And still do.
