Steam Coded String Art

STEAM Coded String Art is a unique, practical and fun approach to learning to code while practicing the principles of STEM and creating Art. Author, Jay Nick demonstrates how to create Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) images with a simple text editor. Save the file and open it in a browser - all you need is a computer, nothing more.


The SVG symbols created in the eBook provides teachers, parents, and students of all ages with a fun way to quickly and simply create complex images by reusing, resizing and rotating the symbols.  The book generates interest in math, art and coding by providing easy instructions for string art symbols, shapes and patterns.


Creating the symbols demonstrates the angles of triangles (isosceles and equilateral), squares, pentagons, hexagons, and octagons. It also shows how to create complex curves with just 3 points and how to use trial and error if the math gets to be too much. The beauty of the book is that it illustrates the simplicity of what can look to be complex or daunting.  


The book includes an appendix with simple examples of how to get started learning to code with HTML, SVG and JavaScript.  Another appendix includes activities to help reinforce the lessons of the book.
