Publisher Description
Private investigator Sarah Booth Delaney and her friends are celebrating New Year’s Eve at the party of the year, a smashing Winter Garden party at the Prince Albert Hotel. It’s a dazzling success…until Frangelica “Sister” McFee walks through the door. Sarah Booth knew Sister in college, before Sister became a bestselling author and moved to New York, and fame and fortune don’t seem to have tempered her arrogance and cruelty.
Sister’s latest book is a memoir about the death of her mother and brother many years ago. Now, a film about the book is in the works, and a film crew has descended upon Zinnia, Mississippi, to tell the complete tale. The film crew soon realizes there may be more to the story than meets the eye—or is told in Sister’s memoir—and they hire Sarah Booth to discover the absolute truth about those deaths so many years ago. But Sarah Booth quickly realizes that someone is desperate to keep the truth hidden and will go to any lengths necessary to protect a long-held secret.
Carolyn Haines's next Sarah Booth Delaney novel, Sticks and Bones, is sure to delight series fans and newcomers alike.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Hollywood comes to Zinnia, Miss., in Haines's enjoyable 17th cozy featuring PI Sarah Booth Delaney (after 2016's Rock-a-Bye Bones). Filmmakers are scouting locations for a screen adaptation of the memoir Dead and Gone by snooty, self-absorbed Frangelica "Sister" McFee, a former Zinnia resident who has achieved fame and fortune as a bestselling author in New York. They also have some doubts about the book's truthfulness and want to get the real story behind the deaths of Sister's mother and brother. Sarah Booth and her partner in the Delaney Detective Agency, Tinkie Richmond, take on the job of investigating the sordid history of the less-than-loving McFee clan. Clearly, Sarah Booth and Tinkie are getting too close for comfort when the bullets start to fly and the bodies drop. Jitty, the headstrong ghost who shares Sarah Booth's family home, is just one of the many well-drawn characters who help bring this Southern tale to colorful life.

Brava!
This is the best of the best...Carolyn has written the best Sarah Booth mystery ever! Having married into a family of slightly crazy, Ole Miss Mississippians, I can truly say she has captured the insanity perfectly. And how many years have we waited for Sarah Booth and Coleman to be on the same page? Loved every minute of this story and am hungry for the next. Thanks Carolyn for the great adventure and hope to see you again around town (Mobile) soon!
