See the Future
There are lots of books about Stonehenge. This is the first eGuide that I have seen on it or any subject. If you are planning to visit download the book and carry it with you on your iPad or Kindle. There is lots of good information if you are writing a school report. The graphics are excellent. A well done creation in a new travel format. In many ways it is better than a guide book.
Know Stonehenge a whole new way!
Pete Glastonbury is well known to many people who have spent time researching at Stonehenge, and his exhibit of photographs of Stonehenge, Avebury and other ancient sites recently hung in the Wiltshire Heritage Museum. We are all fortunate to be able to have a look at much of the information about Stonehenge accumulated in his lifetime of familiarity, fascination, and study.
Nowhere else will you find this depth of knowledge on the subject presented in popular, nonacademic style seasoned with a wry sense of humour. The pictures and video clips alone are a delight, from black and white historical drawings and photographs of Stonehenge to modern scenes with druids or solstice sunrises. I especially enjoyed the set of pictures showing Stonehenge from the road over time, the antiquarian pictures, and photos of a hedgehog artifact discovered nearby. The extraordinary panoramas and his pictures of mound monument Silbury Hill could only be taken by someone who lives nearby and has spent a lifetime observing and recording this wide ceremonial landscape.
What also struck me was how well he has used the new capabilities these aps allow us, including the video clips and and photo galleries to make it a much richer experience than a book could be. The Stonehenge Guide provides an intimacy with this famous and remarkable monument that isn't possible even for most people who go there to visit. Highly recommended!
