Stonehenge Mathematics

STONEHENGE MATHEMATICS is about numbers and counting, lines triangles circles and ovals – their use by the sages of Britain and Ireland five thousand years ago. They designed ancient monuments with ability and care, knowing full well the community’s belief in their skills and knowledge.

Arithmetic and geometry were the basis for most designs of those ancient monuments, tributes to the past in Britain and Ireland. Stonehenge is visited by a million people every year, the most famous of all the stone circles. Informed visitors should understand its design, account for one hundred and sixty stone columns and lintels, its Sun and Moon calendar characteristics and why five trilithon arches were built in those exact positions. 

Many of the basic rules of ovals, right-angled triangles, line measurements, symbolic values, these eventually made their way to Greece and Egypt, to Rome and Alexandria. Pythagoras and Euclid taught their students philosophy and mathematical knowledge inherited from prehistoric western societies.
