Getting to the bottom of things is dangerous and dicey, as espionage, right-wing secessionists, and national security trip up the dogged investigator. We loved the supporting characters (who help make C. J. Box’s long-running Joe Pickett series so intensely readable), like the outlaw falconer Nate and his fraught friendship with Joe. We spent much of this book wanting to discover how the people in Joe’s life would play a role in the dangerous events unfolding—and we were not disappointed. Packed with witty banter and fast-paced action, Storm Watch kept us on edge and entertained.

With a snowstorm fast approaching, Joe has time only to remove the man's wallet and take some photos with his phone. The lazy local sheriff offers little help, and the body of the victim, a University of Wyoming professor according to the ID in his wallet, is gone when Joe returns to the scene. It becomes clear that higher-ups want Joe to stay away from the case. Joe soon has another crime to deal with—a gang has been gathering "sheds," the antlers that bull elks shed each spring, out of season. Meanwhile, Joe's falconer buddy, Nate Romanowski, is suspicious of a shadowy figure keen on persuading him to join an anti-government group. The suspense builds as the various story lines neatly intersect on the way to a tense confrontation between two of the most powerful politicians in Wyoming. Box is writing at the top of his game. Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett always does what he feels is the right thing to do. Sort of a Dudley do right. Very often it lands him in trouble but he always manages to clear himself of any wrong doing. Sometimes just barely.This story evolves around Chinese spies radical anti government characters and a host of other unsavory as well as good people. An excellent and entertaining read!! Enjoyed immensely!

Fun book. Quick read with fast pace. If you have read thru the other Pickett books, you’ll enjoy the continuum of the Pickett family and friends.
Will definitely be looking forward to the next installment of Joe Pickett & Co.
