Story of a Life chronicles Harry Chapin's ancestry; humanitarian achievements; creative accomplishments in music, film and theatre; political endeavors; and intimate family moments. This is the first authorized biography of Harry Chapin. The idea for this book was first suggested by Harry's older brother, James. Harry's mother, Elspeth Hart, spent several years putting together photos and captions of her ancestors, immediate family, and children. Son, Josh Chapin, worked closely with his grandmother and added more photos and detailed text. Sandy, his beloved wife, added their story of courtship, dozens of treasured family moments captured on film and stories of their adventures abroad. Throughout the book are excerpts from Harry's personal writing of his life experiences. Harry Chapin convinced US Presidents to back his cause to end world hunger, and persuaded fellow musicians to reluctantly donate part of their concert proceeds to charity. It all started with passing hats at his concerts to raise funds for those in need. After a stirring performance about a rainy night while driving a taxi cab in 'Frisco, he was the first singer asked back for a second consecutive night on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, due to hundreds of viewer call-ins. Thirty-one years after his shocking passing, Harry Chapin's music and causes live on stronger than ever.

Outstanding book
This is really a great, intimate look into the life of a great person. Before I had looked at the pictures and read the book, I didn't know too much about Mr. Chapin and now, I am hungry to learn more. As an educator, I tend to read books through the lens of a person looking for things I can share with students. I have already Lund myself referring to the book in my classes... Not because it really plays a role in my curriculum, but because the real theme of the book is humanity, being a good and loving person and improving the world and lives of others while you're here. More people need to learn these messages.
The book is done in a way that truly is inspiring. Learning about Harry Chapin on such a personal level makes you feel as if you are a member of his family. I only wish that I had the opportunity to meet him or someone like him.
I really like the interactivity of the book on the iPad. It's simply beautiful. Really... If you don't purchase and download this book, you will be missing out.
