Abstract A commercial phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde (PRF-Com) and a laboratory synthesized phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde (PRF-Lab) with a higher content of resorcinol were evaluated for bonding to chromated copper arsenate (CCA)-treated pine lumber for possible use in the structural glulam industry as construction products. Laminated wood test specimens of CCA-treated lumber to 4.0, and 6.0 kg/[m.sup.3] retention levels were manufactured using the two PRF adhesives according to ASTM D2559 and tested for shear resistance by compression loading and resistance to delamination during accelerated exposure. The two PRF-adhesive systems did not demonstrate significant differences in the shear resistance test and the values were greater than 10 MPa. In the delamination resistance test during accelerated exposure, only the PRF-Lab adhesive, with a greater content of resorcinol, fulfilled the ASTM requirements for beams treated with two CCA retention levels.
