Publisher Description
Cerebrovascular disease is one of the conditions with the most significant impact on healthcare costs, and one of the major causes of death. From the clinical point of view, it includes three large categories: thrombosis, embolism and hemorrhage. The latter includes subarachnoid hemorrhage, a relatively common neurological condition which represents 5% of cerebral vascular diseases. The risk for subarachnoid hemorrhage is higher in young people since 50% of cases occur in individuals below the age of 45. Although medicine has the technical resources and knowledge for treating this condition, it has a high morbidity and mortality because its sudden onset causes a high proportion of patients to die before reaching the hospital. Out of the number of patients that do reach the hospital alive, a considerable group are still at a high risk of death due to complications, which are in most cases unpredictable. The purpose of this miniatlas is to offer an updated overview of the disease and its differential diagnoses, which we believe can be useful in the treatment of this medical emergency.
