Publisher Description

Two girls who grow up to become women. Two friends who become something worse than enemies. In this brilliantly imagined novel, Toni Morrison tells the story of Nel Wright and Sula Peace, who meet as children in the small town of Medallion, Ohio.

“Extravagantly beautiful. . . .  A howl of love and rage, playful and funny as well as hard and bitter.” —The New York Times

Nel and Sula's devotion is fierce enough to withstand bullies and the burden of a dreadful secret. It endures even after Nel has grown up to be a pillar of the black community and Sula has become a pariah. But their friendship ends in an unforgivable betrayal—or does it end? Terrifying, comic, ribald and tragic, Sula is a work that overflows with life.

Sula - A beautifully difficult read

As a person who does not like to read often. This probably isn’t a good book to start at. It was a bit of a challenge to understand her writing style but once you get in the grove its alright. I found myself going back and rereading to make sure I wasn’t missing anything due to the quick jumps she does between paragraphs!

The story line was drawn out, but it’s something about Toni Morrison’s style of writing that intrigues me. I can’t quite put a finger on it, but it is very intriguing and has me turning the page for more.

Good book with a deeper meaning about life, that becomes evident as the book goes along. Life may be difficult, and the journey may not always be what we expect. The friendships we make leave a lasting impression, and those we love will remain in our hearts regardless of what other feel.
