A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson is a novel set primarily in England that is about the horrors of war, the joys and challenges of family, and the fear and sadness of terminal illness.
In 1925, young Teddy goes for a walk with his Aunt Izzie. He tries to share his love and knowledge of things in nature with her, but she does not seem interested. Teddy is upset by the fact that Izzie claims to have eaten a skylark. Izzie asks him questions about his likes and dislikes. She later uses his answers to write a series of books loosely based on him even though the main character is nothing like Teddy. Teddy hates the books and the fact that they are dedicated to him.
When World War II begins, Teddy signs up. He is relieved to be escaping work at the bank with his father…

Realistic life cycle story
This story it very heart touching and a bit of more realizetion of reality. This about England's family in 1925 prospective. Quite enjoyable to read this and so great as weekend story reading. I loves to read novels but time is something which is not always with us so here the summary really helps a lot to enjoy every bit of it.
Important, historial referenced and well-written.
The fears in an economic and political situation like the one in 1925 were totally justified. I think that we the people living in this modern times are making such a big deal of trifles, if you read history, like this book that's very well referenced, you'll find out how great we are doing right now.
Excellent, a really good text
Wow, this story is very strong, forces you to think and accept things that sometimes we ignore. Although we are well, there are many people who suffer and can do little by themselves. Very good summary, it impressed me a lot
