Team of Teams by General Stanley McChrystal | Includes Analysis

Preview:

Team of Teams by General Stanley McChrystal is an examination of the process he began of restructuring the Joint Special Operations Command management style, from a rigid command structure to a cooperative team comprised of smaller specialized teams. While fighting Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), General McChrystal noted how the United States and coalition militaries were efficient war-fighting machines, but they were not adaptable or effective against the seemingly disordered AQI. In 2005, after a particularly destructive terrorist attack at the opening of a sewage plant near Baghdad, McChrystal began considering whether the efficient structure was actually hindering the counterinsurgency, preventing them from responding to threats in real time and delaying the capture of AQI leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Modern military management originated at the 1900 World's Fair, when Frederick Winslow Taylor revealed his work in steel production efficiency. Taylor believed that there is a right way to do any given thing…

Great Summary & Analysis of Team of Teams

As someone who grew up in a military household, anything with this slant has a special place in my heart and I do believe that much (not all) of what works on the battlefield can be applied to the boardroom. I was thrilled to get a hold of General Stanley McChrystal's "Team of Teams" and knew that this was a book that I was going to want to make use of and refer back to over the long haul. This is why I also picked up this Key Takeaways and Analysis and it is exactly what I needed. This gives a great overview of the book as well as key takeaways so that I don't have to wade through the full text to get what I'm searching for. Recommended.

Excellent insight into Team of Teams

Team of Teams was an awesome book by General McChrystal, about how he changed how the Special Forces operated in order to take on Al-Quaeda. I thought this summary and analysis guide would give me additional insight and understanding into the book and boy did it! It breaks the overall text down with this great summary, and then takes you through the main points and themes through the use of key takeaways. Each takeaway gives you the main point, and then goes into a very comprehensive breakdown of it so by the time you finish reading it, you totally get what it was about. Even if you haven't read the original book, you'll feel like you did after reading this companion guide. It gets all the important information down, including stuff I'd originally missed. Best of all it's super fast to read. I finished it in under twenty minutes.

Excellent companion to the book!

This is a very well developed summary and analysis of and exceptional book entitled Team of Teams by General Stanley McChrystal. The book is an examination of the restructuring of the JSOC’s management style. Which made for an intriguing read. This companion to the book is very informative and does an amble job with breaking down the book, starting with important people in the book, such as, General Stanley McChrystal, Chris Fussell, and Admiral Oratio Nelson.

There are a list of 9 key takeaways that are then analyzed in depth one by one. For instance, how an attempt at creating an effective system can some times create a less efficient system. However my favorite part of this summary was takeaway 7, which explains how the “physical layout of a working space can encourage or discourage collaboration and communication. This was especially helpful and I enjoyed the point and I know I will take that into my role at work. There are also some great references at the end of the book.
