HIS NAME IS CAIN AND EVERYONE IN THE SIERRAS FEARS HIM
With his Cheyenne brother's blood on his hands, Cain is a half-breed hired gun, hungry to prove himself to the white father who has deserted him and cursed him with mixed blood. Fiercely ambitious, he longs for wealth and power in the cut-throat world of ruthless railroad barons.
HER NAME IS ROXANNA AND SHE PRACTICES A DESPERATE DECEPTION
Roxanna Fallon flees west impersonating Alexa Hunt, a railroad baron's only heir. When she is captured by Cheyenne raiders, her grandfather sends Cain to rescue the young woman he believes to be his granddaughter. The moment they meet in the village of his childhood, their attraction is as intense as it is forbidden.
A DEVIL'S BARGAIN DECREED BY THE POWERS
Cain makes a deal with Alexa's grandfather. He will wed the "ruined" girl to whom he is strangely drawn if the old man will make him chief of operations on the Union Pacific Railroad. The half-blood never imagines he will fall in love with the wife who has deceived him as he has her. When they return to his Cheyenne family they are forced to admit their love. In an agonizing Dance to the Sun, the half-white known as Cain faces the half-Cheyenne known as Lone Bull. Only the love a strong woman and the mystic power of an ancient Medicine Man can save the SUNDANCER.
“To say Sundancer is a Native American romance is like saying Titanic is a story about a ship…It is a great love story, a colorful piece of American history, and a finely tuned piece of writing.”
–Mary Lowery, Dublin, Dublin Courier Herald
“Powerful and sensual, Sundancer is one of Shirl Henke’s finest. Filled with steamy love scenes, strong characters and a marvelous love story, she has once again hit the mark.”
–Kathe Robin, Romantic Times
“No one writes Native American romance as excellently as Shirl Henke. Sundancer provides readers with her usual insight, detail and authenticity, which she deftly wraps around a scorching love story. Henke continues to serve as a model providing fantastic, extremely deep romance novels.”
–Harriet Klausner, Amazon
“A real keeper…Sundancer is one of those not-too-often found, excellently written books that I had a hard time putting down.”
–Ces Jacobsen, www.RomanceFiction.com
“Sundancer shines with a cast finely wrought, empathetic and larger than life characters…a novel of incredible depth and perception.”

Running from a Confederate officer who threatens to kill her if she refuses him sex, Roxanna Fallon takes on the identity of her friend--the heiress Alexa Hunt--and heads west to marry an unknown railroad baron handpicked by Alexa's grandfather. On the way, her stagecoach is ambushed by Indians and she is taken and held for ransom. Ex-Cheyenne warrior and half-breed gunslinger Cain comes to her rescue and lust rears its head. When news of her capture and subsequent relationship with the half-breed reaches polite society, her reputation and engagement (to Cain's white half-brother, as it turns out) are ruined. The young lovers decide to wed and soon realize that they have become pawns in a power struggle between two railroad magnates. Adding to the confusion, Roxanna/Alexa finds herself caught between the passions of the two brothers. Plot twists are numerous, and although this makes the narrative rich and evocative, it also renders it difficult to follow as Henke (The Endless Sky) jumps too quickly between story lines.
