And when it's Parker's turn to run away from Dallas and her problems, Clint, the grieving widower next door, is the only one she can call. Thomas's talent shines as every multifaceted character is painstakingly crafted with an intricate set of motivations. There are no cardboard cutouts or shortcuts here. The pacing is just right, never bogged down with anyone's backstory. The ending is not rushed, and just like real life, the resolution is messy. There are some unanswered questions, but the strong love among friends, lovers, and neighbors make the ending satisfying.

you won’t be disappointed if you are a fan of this series.
Many characters and story arcs come to play in this book, and while it was nice to have several different couples in different stages of steam, I couldn’t help but be captivated by Yancy’s story. He’s a character with plenty of baggage, most due to his stint in prison. But he’s truly one of the good guys: reliable, honest, hard-working and completely unable to reconcile his past mistakes with thoughts of a happy ever after. But, things may just start to change for him.
Tori is all the headline news of the moment. A ‘missing’ artist, her desperate moves away from her controlling family has led her to rely on Parker (a gallery owner) to make a change. When she’s ‘discovered’ hiding in a property that Yancy is checking on, the game could be up for her bid for freedom.
Their attraction was solid – and Tori is a person who takes people at face value, a new experience for Yancy in meeting new people. He’s attracted, she’s attracted, but the fact that everyone is looking for Tori may put their connection and friend Parker in jeopardy. When you add in the two other romances that are developing (Parker and Clint as well as Fifth and Madison) there are plenty of hearts and flowers in this one.
Jodi Thomas has managed to create characters that aren’t always instantly engaging, but they do grow, learn and find moments that ring true for readers. The intermingling of multiple romances in various stages of development and connection with the tension from both Tori’s escape and the return of Gabe to his hometown, adding several more questions and concerns to the story, you won’t be disappointed if you are a fan of this series.
