Great Resource for Every Level of Self-Publisher
As a self-published authors there are many books aimed at would-be-authors that spout inspiration and fall back on the "hard work and a little bit of luck," mentality. E.J. Stevens skips over the inspirational quotes and cuts through the bull to provide relevant, modern, and up-to-date information for self-publishers. As a self-published authors, I appreciate her candid, direct, and logical approach to the business of writing.
Running in several of the same circles as Stevens, whenever an author discusses the success of an independent author, E.J. is among the list of discussed authors. Between her best-selling series, international experience, and mix of ebook, paperback and audio publications, she pulls from a well of experience that can be directly applied to all self-published authors.
In her Super Simple Quick Start Guide to Self-Publishing she doesn't provide writing advice. She assumes the owner of this book has a novel and is looking to move into the business of writing and seeking success with their manuscript. E.J. provides suggestions on writing templates, to copyrighting, to various methods of publication. This book not only provides the venues to become self-published, she provides straight forward step-by-step guides. This includes setting up accounts on Amazon, Smashwords, and even walks through how to apply for Tax information.
I have been self-published for over three years and even with five books written, I found myself frequently saying, "I wish I knew this when I started out." Stevens understands the plight of the self-published author and the plethora of out-dated and inconsistent advice and remedies it with this book. After my own three years of struggles, disappointments and learning how to navigate the industry, I found myself still taking notes on things I've yet to accomplish. This book helped solidify many of my questions about publishing and I'm glad to know it is done by a successful author.
As I write this review, I just noticed that E.J. Stevens is continuing her success with more release dates, more translations, and international guest appearances.
