The very first time we met with Jim, the author of this book, was at a bar in Jomtien. The owner of the place, a Texan called Casey, had told Jim that we publish books and magazines so he came over and asked if we would be interested in “having a look at a manuscript”. He then e-mailed us a manuscript which was about some historical places of interest in Thailand or whatever…Very politely we told him that our publishing company works with very different kind of material like “A Fool in Paradise”, “Money Nr. 1” or “13 – The True Story of Lon”.Soon after that conversation he sent us a synopsis of “Surviving Pattaya”. It contained material that was new to our managing director, who has lived here eight years, and unknown for even our thai staff! Everybody here at the Media House agreed that this is something worth publishing and as a result of two conversations at an American bar, a couple of e-mails and our enthusiasm you are now reading these lines.So make yourself comfortable but take a closer look at the cover before you start reading. The picture is not a set up. The girl in handcuffs murdered a 64 year old Finnish man here in our beloved Sin City. She got 23 years sentence and is serving that now. Looking at her one could never believe that she, out of all persons in the world, could do anything like that. She is one of the reasons why it is essential to read this book before you go to Pattaya the first or the next time.
