Liam Mathers is like any other middle-school soccer-obsessed kid until one bizarre autumn Saturday morning-he isn't. On that morning, he experiences the first in a series of hallucinations that take him on a mind-bending tour of a parallel reality that seems so tangible, he is convinced it really exists.

Does it? His psychiatrist says no, but not with conviction. His best friend, Jing, panicked by Liam's behavior, doesn't care what the cause of his hallucinations is; she just wants them to stop before she succumbs to her own inner demons. The situation takes a dramatic turn when Jing's father's philosopher friend reveals a startling interpretation of Liam's behavior, one that triggers a maelstrom of disbelief, suspicion, and speculation among Liam's parents, friends, and doctors.

Jing's physicist father finds himself unexpectedly pulled into the eye of the storm as everyone turns to him for answers. Can he make sense of what is happening to Liam? Is his philosopher friend's interpretation plausible? Should he let psychology, philosophy, physics, or gut instinct guide him? Shockingly, his own daughter's life may depend on the answer.
