Take a Punt in Cambridge

Press photographer Geoff Robinson has spent the last five years documenting life on the River Cam in Cambridge for the national newspapers.

His unique portfolio of pictures shows that punting is a popular pastime on the famous College Backs whatever the weather, whether huddled under umbrellas or lazing in the sun.

In the summer the river comes alive as tourists try their hand at punting, students celebrate the end of their exams with cardboard box boat races and fireworks light up the waterway.

During the autumn the rich colours of the leaves brighten up the historic Cambridge University buildings along the bank and families mess about on the river.

Even in the winter the river doesn’t sleep as people wrap up warm and nestle under blankets to enjoy the ever-changing scenery of the bustling river in the heart of the historic university city.

From rowdy rowing races, swan attacks and slipping in the river to peaceful punting picnics, hen night delights and celebratory swims, life on the River Cam is certainly never dull.
