Take Me with You

Really trying to like this book because I’m interested in the story but there are so many typos just in the first 100 pages it’s hard.

Edit: finished, love the story and characters and writing. Just still not a fan of the typos and bad editing throughout. Still worth the read

This one is DARK. I'm talking pitch-black, no-flashlight, don't-say-I-didn't-warn-you dark. It was recommended to me via Reddit, and I went in completely blind—no idea what I was walking into. If you're considering picking this up, let me save you the surprise: this is a story about Stockholm syndrome, and it holds absolutely nothing back.

Nina G. Jones tells you straight away: "This is not a romance. This is not for the faint of heart. Where you are about to go, there is no light." And she means it. Every word of it. This book does not shy away from the psychological horror of its subject matter. It's gritty, raw, and at times deeply uncomfortable—and that's clearly the point. Jones doesn't romanticize or soften what's happening; she makes you sit in it.

The story itself was okay. I gave it three stars because I did finish it, and there was enough pulling me through to keep going. But I'll be honest—it almost made my DNF list. The premise and the psychological elements are compelling, and Jones clearly knows how to create tension and build a disturbing atmosphere. But there are a lot of misspellings and editing issues that pulled me out of the story repeatedly. It's hard to stay immersed in something this intense when you're constantly stumbling over errors.

For me, it sits right in the middle. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it, and I don't regret reading it. But I also wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it unless someone specifically asked for something dark and psychologically heavy. If you're sensitive to themes of captivity, manipulation, or abuse, this is not the book for you. If you can handle that and you're okay with rough editing, you might find something worthwhile here. Just go in prepared.

Dark read with triggers so be warned. This is the story that you think could be very real. It touches on the damage that a mentally ill parent can do on a child. I think that is what has me throughout the book is that impact that not only Sam's mother but also Vesper's mother had on them and the way that it shaped who they were as adults. In the end it always comes down to Stockholm syndrome when you have someone under control for nay length of time you condition them and it becomes a part of them. So in a sense that is basically what Sam's mother did to him. The dark part of the story deals with rape kidnapping and deprivation so if these are not things that you want to read about this might not be a book for you. But if dark is your genre I would say that this should be on your TBR list.
