Oliver Optic is the pseudonym of the American teacher, noted academic and author of juvenile literature William Taylor Adams.

Published in 1883, "Taken by the Enemy", the first volume of the "Blue and the Gray Afloat" series, is based at the very start of America's Civil War. It tells a story of a father and his son going to the south to rescue the daughter from her uncle's house. But what will they do when the blockades are already set up and the entire nation is caught up in the war between the North and the South?
