Publisher Description

Twenty-three-year-old Jessica Porter lived an absolutely ordinary life, and for the most part she was content to do so. Granted, she was plagued with chronic low self-esteem, body image issues and relationship misfires. But on the plus side, she had a circle of loving friends, a quirky sense of humor, a comfortable accounting job, a fashionable wardrobe and her ever reliable companion, chocolate.

However, Jess's safe, mundane world comes to an end one night when a series of events change her life forever in both traumatic and unexpected ways. The resulting PTSD is bad enough, and the strange, unexplainable occurrences she experiences months afterward don't help. Further complicating matters, two men from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency pay her a visit, claiming she's humanity's first and only telekinetic. Jess is understandably skeptical, until she's faced with irrefutable proof that the DARPA agents are telling the truth, and that her newfound powers can prove deadly if left unchecked. Realizing she needs their help, Jess agrees to partner with a government research team in an effort to unravel the mysteries of her incredible new talent.

In the wake of a vicious attack on United States soil by a new and deadly enemy, the U.S. Government asks Jess to use her telekinesis to help combat the threat. She accepts the offer, on the condition that she serves in a non-lethal role. Thus, she becomes the "guardian angel" for a unique counterterrorism unit, and discovers her own self-worth along the way.

But there are those who would put Jess's telekinesis to less benevolent uses, and she soon finds herself at the center of an unprecedented arms race to weaponize her abilities. Jess is forced to flee in hopes of finding a sanctuary, but can she possibly keep her talent out of the hands of adversaries with seemingly unlimited resources? It will take all of her courage and resolve, some heartbreaking sacrifices, a liberal application of her powers and a little help from her friends...and that still may not be enough.
