Publisher Description

The true story of an ordinary woman living an extraordinary existence all over the world.

“Gelman doesn’t just observe the cultures she visits, she participates in them, becoming emotionally involved in the people’s lives. This is an amazing travelogue.” —Booklist

At the age of forty-eight, on the verge of a divorce, Rita Golden Gelman left an elegant life in L.A. to follow her dream of travelling the world, connecting with people in cultures all over the globe.

In 1986, Rita sold her possessions and became a nomad, living in a Zapotec village in Mexico, sleeping with sea lions on the Galapagos Islands, and residing everywhere from thatched huts to regal palaces. She has observed orangutans in the rain forest of Borneo, visited trance healers and dens of black magic, and cooked with women on fires all over the world. Rita’s example encourages us all to dust off our dreams and rediscover the joy, the exuberance, and the hidden spirit that so many of us bury when we become adults.

Memorable, educational, daring travels shared

I am 70% through this well-written, vividly told travel adventure, so far, and I have found it fascinating from Page 1 on! I know I regret reaching its end. The author shares a personable, observant accounting of her experiences living among exotic cultures, some of which are in remote lands inaccessible to the vast majority of people. The personal connections this writer makes and the narrative pictures she creates are memorable and moving. She brings the world closer, and her voyage is courageous, impressive, and lasting in what it carries forward for those interested in the world's breathtaking diversity of spirit and customs.

Boring

I had to realllly push through this book. Was hoping it would get better. The writting style is horrible...she might as well have been writing small notes of meaningless day to day stuff in a journal. "I went to the store today" " i bought a coat".. Etc...not exact quotes but you get the idea....borinnggggg...then it changed here and there to a cook book. With detailed instructions on how to make stuff...it has no flow and there is no structure. I'm sure shes a nice lady but this book was disapointing to say the least.
