You might say Marie led a romantic life. She and her five brothers and sisters were born on Cape Cod and raised on Connecticut's "Gold Coast". At eighteen she was on her own in Europe where, on successive weekends, she flirted with a French cavalier on a bench overlooking the Eiffel tower, met and captivated a handsome Irishman, and spent the night on the beach with four German soldiers. She married a Chilean at twenty one; they later moved their young family to Santiago, where she taught English to important businessmen, high-ranking government officials, TV stars and famous artists.
