Publisher Description
Twentysomething Kate Davis can't seem to get this grieving-widow thing right. She's supposed to put on a brave face and get on with her life, right? Instead she's camped out on her living room floor, unwashed, unkempt, and unable to sleep—because her husband, Kevin, keeps talking to her.
Is she losing her mind?
Kate's attempts to find the source of the voice she hears are both humorous and humiliating, as she turns first to an "eclectically spiritual" counselor, then a shrink with a bad toupee, a mean-spirited exorcist, and finally group therapy. There she meets Jack, the warmhearted, unconventional pastor of a ramshackle church, and at last the voice subsides. But when she stumbles upon a secret Kevin was keeping, Kate's fragile hold on the present threatens to implode under the weight of the past . . . and Kevin begins to shout.
Will the voice ever stop? Kate must confront her grief to find the grace to go on, in this tender, quirky story about second chances.

Worth reading
Very good first novel, not great but defiantly worth reading. It took talent to write this novel; it resembles a difficult jigsaw puzzle. I thought that finding an appropriate ending would make or break this novel. Kudos to the author for putting it ll together in a nicely wrapped package.

It's 2:00 in the morning
I downloaded 'Talking to the Dead' exactly yesterday just before noon. Now, it's 2:00 in the morning and I just finished it.
Talking to the Dead is brilliantly crafted with authentic characters who have realistic, everyday issues and flaws. It exposes the danger of 'performance Christianity' and the damage it can cause to soft hearts yearning for 'something more'. It is a relatable journey through a woman's experience of grief, woundedness, healing and redemption. It's your life. It's my life. It's a breath of honesty and true, messy, accepting, loving Christianity! I would highly recommend it, but make sure you have time to devote to it... Or that you're young enough to go without sleep for two days.
Now, I'm exhausted and content. And its time for bed. Goodnight.
