Blocky, but with merit and passion
The depictions of the setting in the story are good. The tale still brings some unanswered questions which of course lead to later novels. This story is primarily on the tension between characters rather than action itself.
The writing style of this story is in sections, and at times it is difficult to recognize the point of view which is being described. Time can jolt forward between paragraphs. However there is something in the manner which the story is constructed which makes this structure bearable. Perhaps requiring this writing style to accent the tensions between characters.
For those who would like a story that resonates less with the sheer visceral description and perhaps a touch of murder-mystery, I must say one should find some enjoyment in this tale.
